MLS Water Vapor and Pressure

Aura Science Result

Time-pressure sections of zonally averaged (between 12°S and 12°N) MLS water vapor mixing ratio, shown as the deviation from the time-mean profile. The advection of wet and dry air (summer and winter seasons) entering the tropical troposphere with a phase lag in altitude is clearly visible. This is usually referred as the "tape recorder effect" , the imprint of tropical tropopause temperatures on stratuspheric H2O.
